Artificial intelligence (AI) has become ubiquitous in the western world. It is developing with such speed that policy makers, ethicists, and – yes – theologians (many of whom are intrigued by AI and its impact) are having a hard time keeping up. Nevertheless, the many issues and questions being raised by AI and the promises and pitfalls of AI-powered technologies require interdisciplinary engagement.
In this presentation, Professor Cory Andrew Labrecque will identify some of these issues and questions and will reflect – theologically and ethically – about AI writ large. Professor Cory Andrew Labrecque will also delve on how AI-powered technologies (such as robot “companions” and legacy or grief avatars), especially those geared toward helping people age at home, are inviting us to revisit the way we think about relationality, limitation, and embodiment.
